I started to blog about how useful referyes.com is and I came across this video which explains it all. Enjoy!

There are a lot of recruiters that have embraced Twitter, but who was the first? Recently I started researching some of the most followed recruiters and ironically some of the most established recruiters with the biggest followings were not the early adopters of the tool. Based on your research, who were the first recruiters to join Twitter? Leave your answers in the comment section below or tweet it with the hash tag #1strecruiter . Also, what boolean string or tool did you use to arrive at your answer?

A few years ago it seemed like all of the great #socialrecruiting events were happening in other parts of the country. DFW Recruiters were forced to travel or follow the conferences on Twitter or blogs posted by attendees after the conference. I’m happy to point out that things are changing! Please see below for three great opportunities to learn more about #socialrecruiting without leaving the DFW Metroplex!
The Dallas EREmeetup was a great success. We had over 80 people join us at BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse in Addison! Below are a few pictures I took with my Blackberry. If you took any photos please provide a link to them in the comments section below.
We are very thankful for the appetizers provided by the DFWTRN! Please visit their website here.
Also, don’t forget to register for Talent Net Live Social Recruiting Conference in Dallas on August 27th!
LOCATION UPDATE: The event will be held at BJ’s Brewhouse on Beltline in Addison, TX
I have signed up to organize the Dallas ERE meetup on July 13th. We have not yet chosen a venue but would love it if all interested recruiters would sign up on the meetup page so we could start to get an idea of what attendance migh be. Here is some information about the event from the ERE…
On July 13th, ERE Recruiter Meetups are going to be simultaneously run in cities around the U.S. It’s going to be a great opportunity for recruiters to meet and network with other recruiters in their area.
The Meetups are going to be locally run and organized by the people attending them — crowdsourcing at its best.
I normally only blog about recruiting related issues but I recently became obsessed with location based apps so I am going to share some thoughts. All of them have their positive and negative aspects… Below are my thoughts on the few I have used.
Loopt - Loopt is the first I chose to experiment with. One of the things I like most about Loopt is that they allow one to attach a photo with the checkins. This served me well on a recent family vacation. Everywhere we went I checked in and posted a photo of the family at the location. When I imported the feed to my Tumblr Blog it included a map, and the picture in the post. It made for a very cool trip journal. Loopt does get a little boring because there is no gaming aspect to the application.
Gowalla – As a Texan I was excited to learn that Gowalla was also a player in the world of location based apps. I downloaded Gowalla and tried really hard to like it. I like the look of Gowalla and the armadillo made me feel at home
. However, I was often frustrated because I was often unable to check in at a location I was visiting because the first person that created the location was standing too far away from the location I was standing in. This happened to me several times at large stores and a hotel so I eventually moved on. Positive aspects of Gowalla: they have a leaderboard to cater to the people who enjoy the competition. They also allow one to post pictures.
Foursquare: The location based application that I have chosen to use most of the time is Foursquare. With Loopt, there is no motivation to check in at the more mundane places, like the grocery store. However, with Foursquare, I check in everywhere I go just so I can be the mayor. I am the mayor of the cleaners, the local pharmacy, the donut shop, the gas station, my kids acting school, and a few other places. It’s also nice to be able to check in “off the grid”. When doing this, you get credit for checking in, which could eventually lead to being the mayor, but you don’t have to publish the details to the entire world.
I am not a professional, these are just my thoughts on the few apps I have used.
Which location based app do you like and why?
I am very excited to announce that about two weeks ago I started working with Raytheon as a Senior Recruiter for Space and Airborne Systems. I will be focusing on recruiting engineers for the Electro Optical Directorate. I am excited about my new role and have already learned a lot from my new colleagues. I have already had the opportunity to start working with some cross-functional teams within the organization. I will also be going through Raytheon’s Six Sigma program over the next few months.
If you happen to be an engineer in Aerospace reach out to discuss opportunities!
